Hello,
My name is Bobby Holliman. I am the Career Development Coordinator at Zebulon G/T Magnet Middle school. Each year we try to provide an opportunity for our students to get first-hand knowledge about different careers. This year we are trying a new format for bringing speakers in to talk with our students about the school-to-work connection. We have designated Fridays as our Career Exploration Days; we will be reserving our fourth period elective time (10:10-10:55) for career presentations. Part of the reason we are trying this new format is because we understand how difficult it is for people to take a half or full day off of work to participate in a career fair type of event. Hopefully, by asking for one hour of your time we will not be infringing too heavily on your job responsibilities.
We are inviting speakers from a wide array of job/career opportunities to discuss with our students the specifics of their particular profession. We would like the presentations to include information on topics such as the following: educational requirements, work environment, entry level salary/ average salary, daily demands, job outlook, etc. At the end of each presentation time will be allotted for students to ask questions.
As educators we believe that if the students have an opportunity to get a “real-life”, personal picture from a variety of employees then they will have a better understanding of the importance of doing their best work now in preparation for their future career. We would like to extend an invitation to you to join us in our endeavor. Please contact me by phone at 919-404-3650 or e-mail me at bholliman @wcpss.net.
Thanks,
Bobby Holliman
